Link Building, it is one of those factors we all know we require to be undertaking but are we doing it? It has been mentioned numerous occasions before that Backlinks are one of the mainly important elements in your web sites Search Engine Rankings (SERPs) and that the quality of the backlinks make a huge difference!

Let’s just talk about what a Backlink truly is. A backlink is a link from another website to your website, basic as that.

The Search Engines consider these links a poll for your sites credibility. So the more backlinks (votes) your website has directed to it the more the authority Search Engines evaluate it has.

Now this doesn’t mean to randomly getting backlinks from all over the place there’s more to it than that. Although a backlink from any site will count. A link from a site in the same Niche as your site will count even more. i.e. Niche Relevant.

e.g. If your selling golf putters and you have a heap of links from other Golf related sites then that tells the Search Engines you are an Golf site with some Authority.

But not all backlinks are made the same. You most likely have heard of PageRank(PR). PageRank is a quality score given by Google to advise you what pages have credibility. If you get a link from a site which has a high PR it helps more than from a site with less PR.

So preferably you would want Niche Relevant Higher PR Links to link to your site so your website can do a lot better in the Search Engines Rankings.

A handful of these Niche Relevant Higher PR Links can be much better at ranking your website than hundreds and 100′s of PR0 Links and that’s the basic truth.

So what do people do. Well some simply disregard backlinks and don’t build them. I am here to inform you if you are not backlinking you are throwing away your time it’s essential for ranking your site. Unless of course you got a quantity of money for Pay Per Click you will not get the traffic you want.

How about those that invest the time to backlink? What do they do? Well sadly the majority spend hours and hours building backlinks to PR 0 sites. You have to respect their work ethic but it’s really is a misuse of time and effort.

Others spend the cash on purchasing good PR Links and yes this does work and save you time but how much money do you have to expend? The idea is to make money online not spend it on every single quality backlink you need, in order to get ten backlinks you can be spending hundreds.

So the concept is to invest a smaller amount of money and a smaller amount of time and just build backlinks to Niche Relevant Higher PR websites.

When you are creating backlinks instead of going hard trying to build as many as possible take the time to ascertain the PR of the website, whether the link will be ‘dofollow’ or ‘nofollow’, whether the backlink is Niche Relevant. This is what you should be thinking about. When it comes to the Search Engines they want excellence over Quantity, they don’t just want spammers or those with tons of money. They want the right quality site to rank for the correct Search Terms.

Question is….is that your website? Think about that next time you build links.

We all know that backlinking is essential for SEO success. I outlined this in my article about off page SEO. However, there still exist a number of backlinking mistakes which are committed by people worldwide and which are costing them dearly in search engine rankings, traffic and most importantly, revenue.

1. No Anchor Text

This is the most basic principle of a good backlink. If you want your backlink to help your website rank for a certain keyword, then the keyword must be in the anchor text of that backlink. For example, if the main keyword of your website was “designer wedding clothes”, then the text which should be included in your backlink should be “designer wedding clothes.”

2. Linking To The Wrong Page

This follows on from the previous backlinking mistake. It also puts an emphasis on the importance of choosing 1 keyword to target per page. For example, if you have a webpage which is optimised for the keyword “designer wedding shoes” then all the backlinks with the keyword in the anchor text should be sent to that page. Don’t send it to your home page or any other page. Sounds simple and logical, but so many people forget about this.

3. Linking From Irrelevant Sites

Search engines thrive on relevancy and reward those who help it achieve that objective. You need to be sure that all links pointing back to your website are from websites relevant to yours. For example, if you had a website about designer wedding clothes, be certain that a plumbing website is not linking to you. You may come across cases where this cannot be controlled, however, in most cases, the website linking to you will get punished for linking to an irrelevant website instead of you.

A certain exception to this rule include article directories, video sharing websites and social media sites. However, all of them have categories and as long as your backlink is in the most relevant category, you will be fine.

4. Linking From Dodgy Websites

Make sure that the website you are getting linked from is not a dodgy website. Apart from affecting the reputation of your website, this can lead to your website getting punished from the search engines. A dodgy website refers to any website which uses black hat SEO strategies. For example, there are a lot of “link farms” out there on the Web which have been created specifically for website owners to put a link back to their website. Avoid such websites because they only encourage unnatural linking (which is black hat) and which will only get your website punished.

In rare cases, you may get other put a link to your website on one of these, however, most of them do require your consent. Eventually, what tends to happens is that search engines start ignoring these link farms and they become harmless.

5. Getting Reciprocal Backlinks

Many SEO experts out there encourage website owners to get reciprocal backlinks. This refers to 2 websites linking to one another.

The truth is that reciprocal backlinks give you very little if any SEO benefit. The reason is that for search engines, 2 websites linking to each other is not normal.

On the other hand, one-way backlinks give you the most SEO benefit. And you get this through a variety of ways as indicated in my article about off page SEO.

Avoid Mistakes To Succeed Online

Sometimes it’s those little things which make something successful. When it comes to Internet marketing and SEO, doing backlinking correctly is one of those little things which pays off in droves.

When most of us hear “learn how to make money online” we’ve learned to run the other way. There are so many scams out there it’s easier to give up than get involved in yet one. But don’t give up yet! Writing articles is no longer about getting the latest stories into the latest editions of the local newspapers, all written by well paid reporters. Things have really changed now with the internet. You don’t need to be a big name pro to get your writings accepted and recognized. Writing is a now a marketing tool. Learning about external links and article marketing can help grow your business.

The internet provides a wide range of outlets for any level of writing talent. “Article” no longer means a front page news story. It can include anything from consumer product reviews, blogging, news group information, forum postings, website content, and even content for “real” web based publishing houses.

Submitting content to these sites can be simple, and rewarding. You have a couple choices when  you submit your writing. You can do one, or both.

Check out some sites where you can submit content for free. These frequently offer more benefits, too. At the end of your article you should place a link to your own website for the  readers to either get more information or turn into paying customers. You will be looked on as an expert on the subject. That is, after all, a main benefit of article marketing.

For example, if you are a sports therapist you might want to write about how athletes can prevent injuries when working out. At the end of each article you should add your bio and a link to your website. Your goal, of course, is to get exposure as an expert in your field, and get customers as they flock to your website.

Some sites will pay you for your article. You may or may not be given a byline. Each paying site has different rules.

You probably aren’t going to pay off your mortgage or take a European vacation with your earnings from writing. Many famous writers over the years have died penniless. However, writing for the internet isn’t about getting rich writing, per se. It’s all about advertising what you have to offer. Try some viral marketing with your emails, too. Put a link at the bottom just like Hotmail has done for years, and direct readers to your site or at least your phone.

Are you a mortgage broker? Hair dresser? Computer repair tech? There’s nothing like adding a link on your emails with either special promotions or a link to your website. You will get customers!

Rob Kerry from Ayima – Gambling / Gaming SEO

The gaming world is probably the most competitive niche in SEO – esp poker and casinos.

There is no secret sauce as there used to be e.g. with old link networks being burned.  Rob shows a graph of search volume and est clickthrough

888 vs William Hill – #1 and #4 respectively.  Both are similar in terms of optimisation but their backlinks are what separates them. Rob uses a similar way as David Naylor to rank links according to their anchor text, class C IPs and other metrics such as PR.

Once you are top of your league in a market – eg casino in UK, how about thinking about breaking out into other countries. Why not take a look at backlink comparisons to check out a few of the top ranked sites in France. My main recommendation would be not to use a subdomain but always a subfolder because you will be starting from scratch with a subdomain. With Google Webmaster Tools you are allowed to register a subfolder to a different country.  Rob expanded on this more in the Q&A – it is much easier, quicker and cheaper to use a subfolder on a generic TLD to rank for really competitive keyphrases in different countries, compared with building up authority from scratch on different (sub)domains.

My summary:

This was an excellent session as expected with such top class speakers, all so experienced that if you let them talk for any amount of time there’s going to be valuable stuff for anybody who is into Search Engine Optimisation to soak up.  The problem is (and I’ve heard this said about the big SEO conferences compared to say the SEOmoz Pro seminar last year) is that all the talks are so short that speakers cram a shedload of good stuff into a verbal diahorrea of bullet points. It’s easy for it to go over your head and I’m knackered trying to get it all down! Needless to say I’ll be checking out the slides when they’re released and chatting to the speakers in the pub if possible!

I’m not sure what the next big conference will be about, hopefully they will have one dedicated solely to Web Design in the not too distant future.

Expensive fellow netrepeneur. Perhaps we tend to share the identical problem.

We tend to have a nice website, but little or NO visitors. Now what is a web site without traffic?
It’s like an old book lying filled with mud cause no one uses it.

What we tend to wish is traffic and masses of it. And would it not not be nice if we tend to can get it for FREE? Thus how do we go regarding to get this FREE TRAFFIC? You know, theres a lot of Article Directories spread accross the internet that provide Article Writers (Authors) the opportunity to post their articles there at no cost with a free backlink to their sites.

All you have got to try and do is to register with these Article Directories, activate your account, create a penname and then add your articles. And this is exactly what I used to do. But let me tell you (not that you are not attentive to it), IT IS A TEDIOUS TASK. I mean, to addone Article to ALL these directories manually will take days or perhaps weeks of arduous work.

I wondered if there was’nt a program on the market which may assist me with this task and located quite some article submitters available. The only problem was that some Article Distributors wasn’t free and those that were had some restriction (prefer it can post to only a sure amount of article directories).

You may have to shop for the full version to get the most out of them.

Others could not post to the right Categorie at the Article Directories ( it will post a writing about dogs below Finance for example). Now that’s very unproffesional.

Thus started my journey to attempt and create a program that might simply do everything the others may not.

1. AUTO-CREATE ACCOUNTS AT THE DIRECTORIES.
2. AUTO-CREATE PENNAMES AT THE DIRECTORIES.
3. AUTO-DELETE PENNAMES AT THE DIRECTORIES.
4. AUTO-POST ARTICLES TO THE MOST RELEVANT CATEGORY TOTHESE DIRECTORIES.

And guess what? I accomplished it. And noe I need to share it with you at completely NO COST.

Perhaps you think that you cannot write an Article? Let me tell you. YOU ARE WRONG!!!! I had the same thought at initial, but what are you reading now? My article of course. You’ll write concerning anything below the sun.
You can even write a piece regarding how you created your 1st website, or how you struggled to get traffic.

The sky is that the limit. Below you may notice a link to my website “Super Article Submiiter” where you can Auto-Post your articles in no time ABSOLUTELY FREE OF CHARGE!!!
